no it will not support i7.

EDIT

your board is socket 775 thats the socket of proc you need.

since your asking this type of question i would suggest you NOT do this. one wrong move can destroy your system.

if you want to improve your processor than i suggest getting a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or a Q9650. Why? That is because in order to use a core i7 you need a new motherboard with the X58 chip set like the Asus P6T Deluxe or the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R. For m-ATX motherboard would Asus Extreme II Gene. Also you would need DDR3 RAM like the Corsair XMS3 1333MHz 1X3GB. As the core i7 works best in triple-channel so you would need three sticks.

Even though the core i7 has a reasonable price in terms of its performance... you would need to buy the still expensive DDR3 RAM and relatively expensive socket 1366 motherboard.

The reason why I'm suggesting on a Q6600 or a Q9650 is because they are highly overclockable... paired with a CPU cooler like the Titan Fenhir TTC-NK85TZ or the Cooler Master V8, your performance would be increased greatly.

Nonetheless an overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo like the E8600 would still work well many games and if you are not going to multitask much this is still an option to consider...

unless you want to consider changing the mobo and ram i would stick with Core 2 Quad platform but if you have the cash to spare than go ahead and spend on a core i7...

hope this helps...

It will not support an i7, it uses an entirely new socket type. The i7 is supposedly faster, though, but at the moment still expensive, and you may not notice any difference, especially since it is clocked slower.

You will need a new motherboard, but you have to make sure it is compatible with all of your other parts or you will need a complete computer replacement. Even if you do find a new motherboard with everything you need, it is difficult to replace sometimes, especially when found on stock computers, like brand name ones like Dell that weren't meant to be cracked open and modified. I would keep your Core 2 Quad, and if you want to speed it up, try to look for a Core 2 Quad faster than 2.8 GHz, but I'm not sure if there is a faster one at the moment.
